The Board of Leiðsögn - The Guides Association in Iceland condemns the recent incident at a hotel in Iceland, where a tourist guide assaulted a minor on a school trip with a group of classmates from the UK. The incident was recorded on video and sent to the British and national media.
This wretched behavior is completely unprecedented among tourist guides in our country as well as in the Icelandic tourism industry which is known for its hospitality.
The guides' code of conduct states: "Under no circumstances does a guide engage in harassment, bullying or violence of any kind, either in words or actions, and is wary of such behavior by others."
This incident is completely against the code of ethics of the company. However, it is primarily a police matter according to the board.
The board of Leiðsögn hopes that stakeholders in the tourism industry, both in Iceland and abroad, will realize that this is reprehensible behavior that in no way reflects the professional and friendly service guides in Iceland are known for.
The board extends its heartfelt well wishes to Harris Girls' Academy Bromley in New Beckenham and hopes for the swift recovery of the assaulted girl.
