• Walk to the Rock

21 October The Gimli Icelandic Canadian Society and the New Iceland Heritage Museum invite you to Gimli, MB the annual “Walk to the Rock” - a walk along the shores of Lake Winnipeg to the site where the first Icelandic immigrants arrived. As you walk you get a real sense of  the challenges faced by the settlers arriving in the Canadian wilderness, in October, with only a few personal belongings and tents for shelter.  A short tribute is held on the beach at the commemorative cairn before returning to the museum to celebrate the establishment of New Iceland and perhaps more importantly to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or coffee after a nippy fall walk.
